4.4.5 Prior Notice of Nonrenewal

(1) A faculty member (tenure line or non-tenure line) holding a renewable appointment for one year shall be notified by March 15 if the appointment is not to be renewed. Failure to give timely notice of non-renewal shall entitle the individual to a special reappointment for an additional terminal year, but such additional appointment for a terminal year, if granted, shall not count toward acquisition of tenure by length of service under Section 4.4.4(1). When, to a faculty member holding a continuing appointment or a renewable appointment for more than one year, notice of termination or of non-renewal is not given before July 1of the penultimate year of the contract, the appointee shall be entitled to a special reappointment for an additional terminal year, but such additional appointment for a terminal year, if granted, shall not count toward acquisition of tenure by length of service under Section 4.4.4(1).
